A rooftop walkway needs an agreed route and support arrangement before its grating panels are released for manufacture. The grating supplier, roof designer and installation contractor each hold part of the information. Give them a coordinated drawing that shows where their work meets.
Use the rooftop walkway grating schedule to identify the panels, then tie it to the roof plan and support details. Record which designer approves each interface and which contractor installs it.
Mark the roof access point and the equipment that staff must reach. Include working areas, doors, service panels and the route needed to move maintenance equipment. Ask the equipment maintainer to confirm the space required for routine tasks and replacement work.
Show drains, roof joints, changes in level and existing services on the same plan. Record any areas that must remain available for inspection. Discuss whether sections of the walkway need to be removed for roof repairs and how those sections would be handled.
Give the structural reviewer a complete brief
Provide the proposed walkway dimensions, component weights and intended use, including carried tools and maintenance equipment. Ask the structural designer to define the acceptable support arrangement and review how it relates to the roof structure.
Record the support positions on the drawing used by the grating fabricator. Include any restraint and movement requirements supplied by the designers. If an installer proposes moving a support around a site obstruction, send that change for review before altering the agreed layout.
Resolve the roof-system detail
Ask the roof-system provider to review the proposed interface with the roof surface and waterproofing. Obtain the accepted detail, installation sequence and any inspection requirements. Confirm how the work affects the applicable warranty and retain the written response with the project documents.
Assign responsibility for work at each interface. The schedule should state who supplies the support, who carries out the roof work and who checks the finished detail. Include access for inspecting the roof after the walkway is in place.
Where designers specify separation, protection or an attachment detail, carry that exact instruction into the installation package. Do not leave the site team to choose materials from a general note on a panel drawing.
Plan delivery and handover
Provide panel sizes and weights to the contractor preparing the delivery and handling plan. Agree where components may be stored and how they reach the work area under the site’s approved arrangements. Keep panel marks readable so the installer can match them to the roof plan.
At completion, record the installed route, support locations and any approved changes. Give the owner the removal sequence for service sections, replacement fixing information and the roof inspection requirements. File the roof provider’s accepted details with those records so later maintenance does not start with an undocumented interface.
