An aluminum grating schedule should identify the material and construction of the finished panel. A general description such as aluminum walkway leaves the designer without the alloy, temper, joint details or product data needed to review the offer.
Start the aluminum grating inquiry with a marked layout and request a product schedule from the supplier. Give every proposed alternative its own line so the approved choice remains identifiable through fabrication and delivery.
Ask what the finished panel contains
Request the alloy and temper designations for the bearing members and other components, together with the material records required by the order. Ask how the transverse members connect to the bearing members and how the perimeter is finished. The section drawing should agree with the construction named in the quotation.
Where a supplier proposes welding, swaging or another joining method, ask for the documents supporting that particular product. Include attachments and special end details in the review. An approval for an ordinary rectangular panel does not resolve an unreviewed custom connection.
Require the load and deflection information for the actual product and intended support arrangement. Show the panel orientation and support positions on the project drawing. Record the assumptions supplied to the reviewer so an accepted calculation can be linked to the delivered panel.
Draw the material interfaces
List the materials at each contact point: grating, support beam, clip, bolt, washer and any proposed separator. Include existing steelwork when the project is a replacement. A section through the connection is more useful than a note that simply calls for compatible fixings.
Describe the exposure at the connection, including wetting, salt, cleaning substances and places where liquid may remain. Ask the responsible designer to review the proposed combination and any treatment or separation detail. Keep the approved detail with the order rather than leaving the installer to select a barrier material at the work area.
Coordinate the finish and handling details
State the requested finish and identify which visible faces matter to acceptance. For a rooftop or dock installation, provide the handling route and storage conditions to the supplier. Ask for panel weights and packing information that the contractor can use in its handling plan.
Confirm the location of identification marks and any protective packing that must be removed. Include inspection of contact faces and custom joints in the receiving plan. Record a damaged item against its panel mark before it is mixed with accepted components.
If the offered alloy, temper, joint or fixing changes after approval, request revised product documents and a review of the affected detail. Update the schedule and panel drawing together. The delivery package should carry the final product code, material identification, accepted load information and installation instructions, with superseded alternatives clearly removed from the working set.
