A marked-up panel drawing is the starting point for FRP cutting work. It should show the finished outline, supports, openings and panel identification. The workshop also needs the instructions for the exact product, including the proposed cutting method and any treatment required after cutting.
When ordering molded fiberglass grating, decide which work the factory will complete and which work remains on site. Put that division in the purchase order. A delivery note saying panels are cut to size does not explain responsibility for an opening added later.
Prepare the work package
Attach the manufacturer installation guide, product identification and approved panel layout. Record their revisions together. The person preparing the method statement should review the required tools, dust control, protective equipment and work area arrangements against those documents and the site’s procedures.
Show the waste side of each cut and identify any shaped opening. Ask the designer and manufacturer to review how the remaining panel will sit on its supports. Where an opening changes the approved arrangement, hold that panel for a revised detail before cutting.
Keep edge treatment in the fabrication scope
Ask the manufacturer whether the selected product needs treatment on cut surfaces or drilled holes, and obtain the specified materials and instructions. Include the work in the fabrication traveller so it is visible to the inspector. Record who carries out the treatment and who checks completion before the panel leaves the workshop.
A late alteration needs the same documented review. Give the site team a way to identify the product and obtain replacement instructions if a labelled panel is damaged or its mark becomes unreadable. Store the approved repair and alteration details with the drawings used at the work area.
Check the fastening arrangement before delivery
- Match each clip description to the panel product and support detail.
- Show the approved fastening locations on the installation drawing.
- Confirm access for fitting, inspection and later removal.
- Identify the supplied fastener materials and any separate accessories.
- Allocate spare fixings to the maintenance package.
Use the manufacturer’s instructions for fastening and tightening. If the site support differs from the approved drawing, raise the discrepancy before fitting the panel. Record the response as a drawing change or written instruction so the next installer receives the same decision.
Hand over identifiable panels
Keep panel marks visible through packing and installation. Inspect the installed outline, support contact, completed edges and fastening against the approved documents. Record damage or unfinished work by panel mark, with a photograph showing its location.
For removable sections, give the maintenance team the panel layout and the instructions needed to refit the same fasteners. The completed handover should make it possible to identify a replacement panel without relying on the memory of the original installer.
