Receiving 316 grating: panel marks, certificates and packing checks

Prepare the receiving sheet before the shipment arrives. Use the approved panel schedule as its starting point, with space for bundle marks, quantities, document references and exceptions. This gives the stores team a record they can complete against the order instead of building one from labels on the delivery day.

Request the packing information in advance

Ask the supplier for a packing list that identifies which panel marks are in each bundle. Confirm how those marks will appear on the goods and how the supplier will distinguish special pieces. Include clips, bolts and other separately packed items in the check, with their quantities and packing references.

For 316 stainless steel grating, request the material documents specified in the purchase order before the agreed inspection or shipping release point. Have the supplier explain how the relevant material or batch references connect with the supplied panels. If the order requires traceability records, agree that connection before accepting the document package.

Read documents against the order

Check the stated grade, supplier identification and referenced quantities or batches against the purchasing records. Ask the responsible inspector to review the certificates required by the project and resolve missing or unclear references. A panel photograph or the word “stainless” on a packing label does not establish the material grade.

Keep documentary acceptance separate from the physical receiving check. A complete certificate file does not record whether every scheduled panel arrived, and a correct panel count does not resolve an unexplained material reference. Give each open item an owner and a clear status.

Record what arrives

  • Compare bundle and panel marks with the packing list and approved layout.
  • Count the scheduled panels and separately packed hardware.
  • Photograph damaged packing or visible panel concerns with the identifying mark in view.
  • Record dimensional or finish checks required by the project inspection plan.

Use the agreed site handling arrangements to open and inspect bundles. Where an item is missing, damaged or uncertain, record its status under the project’s receiving procedure and ask for a written disposition before it is released for installation.

If the order contains several stainless steel bar grating panel types, preserve their identification through storage and issue to the installer. Retain the final packing list, certificate references and closed receiving exceptions with the approved drawing. When maintenance later requests a replacement, the panel mark should lead back to its size, location and accepted order specification.
