Receiving and storing galvanized grating without trapping moisture

Prepare a storage and receiving plan using the supplier's instructions, with checks for wet packing and a clear record of coating concerns.

Ask for storage instructions before a galvanized grating shipment leaves the supplier. Tell it how long the goods may remain stored, whether the area is covered and how bundles will be handled. Request instructions that address the actual packing arrangement and planned storage conditions.

For galvanized steel grating, make those instructions part of the receiving package. Confirm which wrapping is intended for transport and which protection should remain during storage. Name the site contact who can resolve a packing or coating concern with the supplier.

Check the bundle as it arrives

Record the delivery date, bundle marks and packing condition before opening the goods under the site’s handling procedure. Photograph damaged wrapping, wet packing or visible coating concerns with the identifying mark in view. Note where the condition occurs and whether other bundles appear affected.

Compare the packing with the supplier’s description and ask for clarification if the storage instructions do not match what arrived. Keep the goods identifiable while the site team carries out the agreed checks. A photograph without a bundle or panel mark is harder to connect to the final receiving record.

Translate instructions into a storage arrangement

Ask the galvanizer or supplier to confirm the required drainage, ventilation and support arrangement for the packed panels. Give it a description or sketch of the proposed storage area where needed. Have the site team apply the accepted instructions and record any limitation it cannot meet.

If wrapping or separators are wet, seek the supplier’s written direction under the project’s receiving procedure. Identify who will remove or replace materials, what inspection is required and how panel identification will be preserved. Avoid accepting a storage arrangement solely because it resembles the way the goods travelled.

Set inspection intervals according to the supplier’s instructions and site conditions. Assign someone to record changes after weather exposure, relocation or repacking where these occur. Keep access for those inspections in the storage plan, together with the site’s handling requirements.

Document concerns without guessing at the cause

If deposits, discoloration or damage are found, record their location and appearance and ask the supplier or coating reviewer for a disposition. Do not label a condition as harmless, a coating failure or a particular corrosion mechanism from a photograph alone. Request the evidence and acceptance reference behind the response.

Obtain approval for any proposed cleaning or repair before carrying it out under the project procedure. Record the affected marks and the verification needed afterward. Retain the accepted condition, storage history and closed exceptions with the handover documents so the installer knows which items have been released.
