When identifying an existing panel, treat a reported 19-W-4 label as a starting point. Record the measured arrangement and the bar section so the replacement enquiry does not depend on an incomplete description.
Identify what each measurement represents
Label bearing bar pitch, cross bar pitch, clear opening, bar depth and bar thickness separately. Photograph the measurement position. A measurement across the open space between bars is not the same as a centre-to-centre pitch measurement.
Check repeated spacing over several intervals
Where the geometry allows, record a measurement across several repeated intervals and state the number of intervals used. For example, the distance from the centre of the first bar to the centre of the eleventh bar covers ten intervals, not eleven. This provides a useful cross-check against a single short measurement.
Record section and installation details
- Note the bearing bar depth, thickness and visible surface profile.
- Show the bearing direction and support positions.
- Record finished panel size separately from the support opening.
- Identify banding, cut-outs and fixing locations.
- Mark corrosion, distortion or inaccessible areas that limit reliable measurement.
Compare the findings with the proposed drawing
Ask the supplier to state the proposed dimensions and tolerances explicitly. Resolve differences between field measurements, legacy drawings and product labels before releasing the order. If the old panel is damaged or the service conditions have changed, request the appropriate design review instead of reproducing it without evaluation.
The 19-W-4 designation guide explains the terminology. Send the measurement record with the replacement enquiry, keeping uncertain dimensions clearly marked.
