Send the fabrication drawings to the galvanizer before approving the finishing sequence. Include banding, attachments, covered areas and any hollow components in the package. Ask the galvanizer to identify details that need review, then return proposed changes to the fabricator and project engineer.
A hot-dip galvanizing enquiry should describe the complete assembly and the condition expected at delivery. State the finish specification and records required by the order. Give the finishing supplier the actual drawing rather than a generic product photograph.
Review the details before they are made
Ask the galvanizer where the submitted arrangement needs drainage, venting, handling or other process provisions. Require marked-up details and the guidance used for the recommendation. Have the responsible engineer review any change affecting the structural design or attachment arrangement before it is incorporated.
Record the agreed sequence of cutting, welding, assembly and finishing. Identify work planned after coating and ask how that work affects the specified finish and acceptance process. Make the responsibility clear when fabrication and finishing are performed by different suppliers.
Put fit and shape checks into the plan
Give the galvanizer information about panel geometry and the points that must fit the installation. Ask for its assessment of distortion concerns for the actual assembly and its proposed handling and process arrangements. The project’s reviewer should determine whether further fabrication or inspection requirements are needed.
List the dimensions and shape characteristics to inspect before and after finishing, with the contractual acceptance criteria. Include interfaces such as removable-panel frames, attachments and matched parts. Ask how the supplier will identify and report an item that falls outside the accepted criteria.
If a corrective operation is proposed, request the method and the approval required before proceeding. Record the item mark, condition found and disposition. Keep the original inspection result with the subsequent verification rather than replacing it with a final unchecked status.
Agree how finish concerns will be resolved
Ask the finishing supplier to provide the inspection procedure and the references used to assess coating concerns. Where repair is proposed, require identification of the affected area, procedure and acceptance record. Refer the proposal to the authorized reviewer under the project’s specification.
Before packing, reconcile completed repairs and inspection records with the panel schedule. Identify the protection and storage instructions supplied for the finished goods. Include photographs or other evidence where the inspection plan requires them.
Retain the galvanizer’s drawing review, approved changes and final inspection records with the shipment documents. If a condition is reported after arrival, the buyer can compare it with the accepted dispatch record and request a disposition for the specific panel.
